Timeless treasures

Steve and I are truly blessed people. Our life together has been more than wonderful and we have been very fortunate to be surrounded and loved by wonderful family, friends, church, and now we are blessed with the birth of this little man.

I wanted to share a few things withyou that we have been given to celebrate Hughes' birth that are so special and are going on my list of gift ideas.

The first is this precious book, On the Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman.

Our sweet friends Bo & Tori gave this to us and we had our first family story time on the night Hughes was born. The story simply makes a point to say how special the birth of a child is. I think this will be one of those stories that we will always read on Hughes' birthday!

The next is another book (yes, I have a thing for books) entitled The True Night Before Christmas by Timothy Poland. Uncle Shane & Aunt Debbie brought this sweet book to little Hughes man when they came to visit at the hospital.

This book is exactly what it says, the real Christmas story, but written in the same rhythmic manner of the children's classic The Night Before Christmas. I also love that the illustrations are created by a child, the authors granddaughter. This will be a part of our Christmas Eve tradition with our children from now on.

My mom loved it so much she went out and bought it the next day for some family gifts.

The last is a gift for mom (also from Uncle Shane & Aunt Debbie). They brought me this beautiful bracelet that I can add beads to. They started with a mom and son bead and an 'h' for my little buddy Hughes. I'm thinking husband might need to remember this around mother's day & birthday :)

And last but certainly not least is the "WubbaNub."  Out little man ADORES his!

I bought the blue puppy after seeing a friend who had one.  And "Auntie Alyssa" gave Hughes the frog. Seems kind of a silly thing but they are so wonderful, if Hughes lets go of his paci it doesn't really go anywhere.  He already holds on to the puppy for dear life and we aren't picking up a paci every 5 seconds.  So if you know someone who is about to have a baby, they NEED this!

So have you ever given or received a really special gift? Share it with me in a comment.

Have a good daisy!

Happy "birth-day" Hughes

Dear Hughes,

Mommy & daddy are so glad you are here! We've been waiting for quite some time and now that you're here we are totally in love.

We make a promise to raise you in a Christian home and pray for you daily. Your daddy can't wait to teach all sorts of things like playing baseball, hunting, and all of that other "boy" stuff. I'll just stick to the snuggling, making boo-boos better, and reading you lots of stories.

I think your big sister marigold is really excited about you too, she loves to walk in your room and look around. Her favorite spot to lay has been in my lap with her head on my belly when you moved around.

We love you little man, and we are more than humbled that God chose us to be your parents.

With more love than you can understand,

Mom & Dad

Team Oglesby

With nervous excitement we got up this morning at 2:30. Showers taken, bags packed, and breakfast eaten (Steve took care of the last one). Folks, we're going to have ourselves a baby!
Team Oglesby is ready....stay tuned for "the rest of the story!"

Announcement & epiphany

So its amazing what you can get done when you know that something is about to happen, aka your child WILL be born :)

I've been putting off making a birth announcement canvas for the hospital not because I didn't want to get it done but because the ideas just weren't flowing...but a little pressure of losing time has caused my brain to go in to overdrive. From that this was created:

Then there was an issue with an old barn window I salvaged from a family barn that's been sitting in the carport since September (don't judge). So I was working on thank you notes when the idea finally came. Needless to say those thank you notes aren't quite finished, but the barn window is :)

Thinking about putting a piece of cork board in one of the open spots and
leaving the other open for the wall color to shine through :)

So, my inspiration lately has been, I'M HAVING A CHILD?!  What's yours?

39 Weeks and about to POP

This is it folks!  Last weekly update, Hughes will be here before the week is over :)

How Far Along: 39 weeks
Baby Size:  Watermelon, ultrasound last week guessed 7lbs 7oz (WHOA!), 19-22in
Total Weight Gain: I've totally lost count at this point, but I think I'm right at 30
Clothes: Totally, unless you count the things I have bought that are just a bigger size and cut so a pregnant body can wear them...but I'm guessing this probably doesn't count.
Best Moment This Week: It's a toss up between mom coming and helping me get the house clean, and my Steve getting the artwork hung on the walls in little Hughes' room.
Gender: Sweet baby boy, Samuel Hughes Oglesby.  Our little man will go by Hughes.
Movement: Still lots of movement, but Hughes has kind of run out of room so the movements are different than they were.
Food Cravings: This week I had a craving for a Little Debbie Brownie, I didn't fulfill this craving, but I did want one real bad.
What I miss:  Still missing my "normal" feet and ankles, but now I seem to have developed some kind of rash that I think is called PUPPP.  It itches like crazy and burns so bad it wakes me up at night. :(
What I am looking forward to: I am looking forward to December 15th, baby Hughes "B-Day!"
Belly Button: So it really isn't out, just flat :)  except on the occasion when you can feel baby parts right behind it!

Have a good daisy!

Nursery News...Issue 5

Yes, I know 3 posts in one night, a little over board maybe but I'm trying to catch up.  Just wanted to show you this little gem...
Insert cat calls & whistles here :)
This rocker was a broken down mess when we got it, and to be honest, I wasn't sure it could be salvaged.  I don't have any before pics anymore.  The sweetest of husbands surprised me one day with an iPhone so I don't have any pictures left.  Anyway, this rocker came from my great-grandmother Brock's home.  We really don't know how old she is, but she's no spring chicken folks.  A local man in our community took this project on, completely took her apart and put her back together.  I painted her arms and legs to match one of the fabrics in the room, we took her back and she got her upholstery on :)  Friends, this rocker is seamless, and I couldn't be more happy to preserve a piece of my mom's family.  If you'll notice the pillow in the chair.  It's another little piece of family.  My other great grandmother on my mom's side made the quilt that it was made from.  It was falling to pieces, so mom cut out enough to make a pillow from.  She also made a little bear.  And mom herself crocheted the beautiful afghan that's hanging on the rocker.  As soon as I finish up getting things put away in the nursery, I'll give you the total reveal.  Be patient, I'm trying :)

BIG News

So we went for an ultrasound Monday and Dr. Tuesday.  Needless to say it's been a pretty busy week at the Oglesby casa.  The ultrasound tech surprised us by showing a 4-D image of this sweet boy.

This melts my heart, the ultrasound is fun in and of itself, but seeing a more lifelike image of MY baby, words can't describe!
Kind of hard to see a whole lot, but if you look close you can see a precious little face.  We had decided not to do the 4-D which is usually done about 30-32 weeks, but she gave us a sneak peek.  So due to the lack of room that little Hughes has its not the clearest picture and he looks a little squished.  She shocked us big time when she told us he already was measuring 7lbs 7oz.  WOW!  I guess I make healthy babies :)  The ultrasound tech kept saying, he doesn't have any room in there!  To which I thought, you're telling me.  My belly feels so hard, you could probably throw a ball at it and it would bounce right off.

Then came the Dr. visit.  We thought we were just going in to for our weekly check, which is not the most glamourous or comfortable thing if you ask me.  If you're giving me a been there done that, I now understand and feel your pain.  Men, you owe us for carrying your offspring...you owe us BIG!!  Anyhoo, I digress, we were about to fall out of our seats when he told us to come in on Monday to have a baby.  He had originally told us we'd discuss it at 39 weeks which is next week, so when he dropped the bomb, our jaws dropped to the floor.  Mercy, doesn't he know I'm pregnant and he shouldn't just throw that on me.  I'm still recovering.  Anyway, we settled on next Thursday instead.  So please set your calendars for prayer and celebration, December 15th, over the birth of Samuel "Hughes" Oglesby!

I've had a couple of freak out moments when the reality of the fact that I'm going to be bringing a real live child home has been slightly overwhelming.  Don't get me wrong, I'm/we are ready, but when you've never done this, its a little scary.  I felt like I did at the beginning of my pregnancy when I took my first test and kept looking at it over and over to make sure it still said I was pregnant.  Only now, I just have to look down and my proof is still there!

So that's where we are, Dec. 15th, unless he decides to make his appearance before then, and who knows, they say the full moon is Saturday!

Have a good daisy!

38 weeks and About To POP!

So my belly just about covers up the entire tree...hmmm!

So it's been a while since I've updated, feeling a little guilty but life has been so busy.  We are trying so hard to get ready for Hughes' grand entrance.  Plus the pregnancy brain kicks in and I forget to have husband over there take the weekly picture, without a picture it's hard to make myself write the post.  Anyway enough with the excuses...here we are at 38 WEEKS!

How Far Along: 38 weeks
Baby Size:  Watermelon, ultrasound this week guessed 7lbs 7oz (WHOA!), 19-22in
Total Weight Gain: I've totally lost count at this point, but I think I'm right at 30
Clothes: Totally, unless you count the things I have bought that are just a bigger size and cut so a pregnant body can wear them...but I'm guessing this probably doesn't count.
Best Moment This Week:  Honestly the best moment this week was probably just having a day to rest.
Gender: Sweet baby boy, Samuel Hughes Oglesby.  Our little man will go by Hughes.
Movement: Still lots of movement, but Hughes has kind of run out of room so the movements are different than they were.
Food Cravings: I've become very fond of Nutella, not that I would call it a craving, but it sure is yummy.
What I miss:  I'm missing normal feet and ankles.  The swelling has set in and it's not very much fun.  It's actually kind of gross.
What I am looking forward to:  I am so looking forward to hold this precious life in my hands, and on a selfish note...I'm also kind of ready to not have to "share" my body.
Belly Button: So it really isn't out, just flat :)  except on the occasion when you can feel baby parts right behind it!

Have a good daisy!

34 weeks...and growing!

How Far Along: 34 weeks
Baby Size: Large Canteloupe, 5.5 pounds, 19-22in
Total Weight Gain: 25 lbs-ish
Clothes: Totally, unless you count the things I have bought that are just a bigger size and cut so a pregnant body can wear them...but I'm guessing this probably doesn't count.
Best Moment This Week: Steve and I had a day of fun Saturday...nothing big, just shopped around town.  It was just nice to be together :)
Gender: Sweet baby boy, Samuel Hughes Oglesby.  Our little man will go by Hughes.
Movement: Hughes is quite the active one, he might just come out walking.
Food Cravings: This wasn't really a craving, but we were out kind of late, it had been a while since had eaten supper and I was just hungry.  Needless to say this found us in the drive-thru at McDonald's waiting for warm apple pie :)
What I miss:  I am missing nap time!  Starting to get a little tired again, and a nap sure would be nice every now and then.
What I am looking forward to: Looking forward to my big sis and her sweet babies coming to town!  We haven't seen them since the 1st week in July.  Allie is going to help me put up my Christmas tree, and I am going to help her "disguise" a turkey for a school project :)
Belly Button: I think it's slightly more out than it is in, but it's hard to tell.  Some days it is just flat, but some days it is slightly out.  I think it depends on where little man is hanging out.

Have a good daisy!

33 weeks...and growing

Sorry this is so late, and unfortunately no picture...my pregnancy brain "made" me forget to take a picture.  I guess I should put a reminder in my phone.

How Far Along: 33 weeks
Baby Size: Pineapple, 4.9 pounds, 19-22in
Total Weight Gain: 23 lbs-ish
Clothes: Totally, unless you count the things I have bought that are just a bigger size and cut so a pregnant body can wear them...but I'm guessing this probably doesn't count.
Best Moment This Week: We had Dr.s appointment and Steve got to use the doplar to find the heartbeat.  It was so much fun watching him get to do that!  Oh, and the BRACES CAME OFF!!!
Gender: Sweet baby boy, Samuel Hughes Oglesby.  Our little man will go by Hughes.
Movement: Hughes is quite the active one, he might just come out walking.
Food Cravings: Just food, even better if I don't have to fix it or it takes little to no prep time :)
What I miss:  I am missing nap time!  Starting to get a little tired again, and a nap sure would be nice every now and then.
What I am looking forward to: Thanksgiving break!  If you teach, you know how long it is from Labor Day to Thanksgiving...I think I can, I think I can, I think I can :)
Belly Button: I think it's slightly more out than it is in, but it's hard to tell.  It's definitely going to come out though, just call it my mother's intuition.

Have a good daisy!

You Might Be Pregnant If Top Ten List

You might be pregnant if...

1.  People look at your belly before your face.
2.  You can't find your cell phone and it is sitting in your lap.
3.  The effort of putting on your tennis shoes is more than that of the workout itself.
4.  You come home, get out of your car, put your things down, greet your incredibly handsome husband, but leave the car running.
5.  People rub your belly for good luck.
6.  Your belly jiggles, but not because of the extra cupcake, because there is someone making it jiggle :)
7.  You can't remember what you what you were intending on doing.
8.  You are asked by those who know and love you, "How are you feeling?" everytime you see them.
9.  You long all day to lovingly wrap your arms around the wonderfulness of a body pillow.
10.  You can fall asleep and/or pee on command.

Dear Hughes,

You're almost ready to make your entrance into this world.  I just want you to know what a joy it is to be your mother already.  You are mommy's little blessing for sure.  I am amazed everyday at how active you are and your daddy and I absolutely cannot wait to see your sweet face and to hold you in our arms.  You have certainly changed our life, for the better of course.  I'm pretty sure we won't be the perfect parents but I promise you we will be the best that we can be.  We pray for you daily, and know that God has big plans for you!  I will treasure this special time that the two of us have had for the rest of my life.  We love you little man!

You are going to be a very lucky little boy, your MiMi and Annie are going to take care of you when mommy goes back to work and you have 2 of the best grandads too.  PaPaw will teach how to make things and play with you, and your Gray will be silly for you and tell you everything you need to know about football (he'll probably give you advice all of the time too, even if you don't want it; you'll learn to smile and nod like mommy does).

Your big sister Marigold is excited about you too! (We think)  She lays her head on mommy's tummy when you are moving around and never moves.  She'll be smaller than you, and when you get bigger you'll have to be gentle with her, but I know she's going to be very protective of you!

Lots of family will welcome you into this world and will love on you:  aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Mommy's Dr. says you are perfect every time we see him!  Take your time (well not too much) in there and come when you're ready, we'll all be waiting.

Love,

Mommy

Baby Size: Honey Dew, 4.5 pounds, 19in

Movement: Hughes is quite the active one, he might just come out walking.
Food Cravings: Just food, and even better when it involves little to no work on my part.

Belly Button: And it is no more.  Neither out nor in, but I don't think it's going to stay that way for long!

Nursery News...Issue 4

Is Your Dresser Distressing You?

This is our dresser/changing table.  The dresser started out 1. Mine and 2. Chocolate brown with brushed nickel drawer pulls.  My sweet Stevie lightly sanded down the dresser and between the 2 of us we got it painted, and I'm pretty sure my belly gave the carport a good buff as I did my part :)  We changed the pulls to oil rubbed bronze.  Then one of my dearest friends, Haven, helped me distress it.  The distressing of the dresser did in fact distress me.  Just like to add that while we did this, the husbands who are wonderful, were inside watching football (just saying).

Stay tuned for more nursery news, and the total reveal :)

Gender: Sweet baby boy, Samuel Hughes Oglesby.  Our little man will go by Hughes.

Belly Button: And it is no more.  Neither out nor in!

Nusery News, Issue 3

So now that the nursery is almost finished I think I'll give you a little tease until it's totally, 100% there.  This nursery is totally hodge podge and homemade.  No where else will there be another nursery just like my little Hughes' and I'm loving it :)  If you'll remember back to my first nursery news post I told you that we were doing a rustic farmer "concept" inspired by laybabylay.com.  So in the middle of the night I came up with this crazy idea to turn an old apple crate I bought at Harrison Brothers Hardware in Huntsville, home of this sweet lady.

The crate started a little something like this:

Ain't she purdy :)

Then transformed to this:

Like, but something is still missing
 Finally to this beauty:

Special shout-out to my handsome hubster, Steve.  He may roll his eyes when I dream up projects, but he sure does do a good job.  I didn't hear him complain, not once.

Total Weight Gain: 18.5 lbs-ish (not totally sure anymore, but Dr. says I'm right on target)
